Why study this with us?
At the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, our T Level Health students experience the best of both worlds: expert classroom teaching and extensive hands-on practice. In year one, you’ll build core knowledge in areas like anatomy, safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety, as well as complete an Employer Set Project and two written exams. Many students also begin their placements at hospitals, GP surgeries, or care homes during this stage.
In year two, you’ll specialise in an Occupational Specialism such as Adult Nursing, Midwifery, or Mental Health, completing extended practical assessments under controlled conditions. By the end of the course, you’ll have gained over 315 hours of placement experience and built the skills to thrive in real healthcare environments.
Alongside your studies, you’ll benefit from:
- Links with universities and employers through initiatives like the Staffordshire Nursing Programme and clinical masterclasses.
- Additional opportunities such as first aid training, completing the Care Certificate, and entering competitions like WorldSkills Health and Social Care.
- Inspiring trips, visits, and specialist facilities designed to replicate real healthcare environments.
Beyond.
Where can this course take me?
This qualification opens up a wide range of progression routes. Many students go on to university to study nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, radiography, or occupational therapy. Others choose higher or degree apprenticeships with the NHS or private providers, training in roles such as nursing associate or healthcare support worker. Some move directly into employment after college, particularly if they have built strong professional links through their placement.
For students interested in medicine, pharmacy, or biomedical science, the T Level provides a solid foundation, though additional A Levels or bridging courses may be required.
Our alumni have progressed into radiography, paramedic science, mental health nursing, and adult nursing, with many telling us that the T Level gave them the skills and confidence to succeed in practical university assessments.
Industry Placement
An industry placement is a mandatory part of the T Level course and full certification of the T Level will not be possible without completing the industry placement. The industry placement is substantially longer than the traditional work experience on BTEC/CTEC and so should be significantly beneficial to you and the employer. You will gain substantial technical training as required through your industry placement.
- The T Level course is focused on developing practical workplace skills that will support progression on to further education or employment.
- The course has a compulsory Industry Placement of 315 hours (45 days) that must be completed over the 2 years to pass the overall qualification.
- Minimum of 1 day off timetable each week to attend a placement or complete the placement in week blocks planned around lesson delivery.
- Part-time work can count towards placement hours if in a role that is appropriate and related.
- 1.5 hour session with our college T Level Industry Placement Co-ordinator each week to develop employability skills to help you thrive in the workplace.
- T Level Industry Placement Co-ordinator will support your search for a meaningful placement and will complete all of the relevant documents.
- College will help with DBS checks and travel expenses.
