T Level
Digital Software & Website Development
The T Level in Digital: Software and Web Development is a forward-thinking, two-year qualification designed for students aiming to launch a career in the digital and tech industries. Focusing on the full software development lifecycle, the course covers everything from understanding user needs and designing solutions to coding, testing, and deploying software in real-world business environments.
Students gain hands-on experience through a 315-hour industry placement, allowing them to apply their skills in a professional setting. Key areas of study include programming in languages like Python, JavaScript, and PHP; software design and testing; data management; cybersecurity; and cloud technologies.
Students also explore the legal, ethical, and business contexts of software development. At our college, you’ll benefit from expert teaching, modern facilities, and a supportive, collaborative environment. With a strong emphasis on practical skills, real-world challenges, and industry engagement, this T Level prepares you for immediate entry into tech roles or progression to university or degree apprenticeships.

Course Content
Both year 1 and year 2 have different topic areas and end of year assessments.
In year 1 the following topics are studied:
- Problem solving
- Introduction to programming
- Emerging issues
- Legislation and regulatory requirements
- Business context
- Data
- Digital environments
- Security
In year 1 two exams are sat alongside an “Employer Set Project” (ESP).
One exam paper focuses on Programming and Algorithmic thinking. The other paper focuses more on business context. The ESP is a multi-task assessment that focuses on project planning, debugging code, designing a solution, developing a solution and reflecting on this. This is undertaken in exam conditions but spans multiple days.
In year 2 an “Occupational Specialism” (OS) is undertaken focusing on Website Development. This is a multi-task assessment that focuses on analysing a problem and designing a solution, developing the solution, gathering feedback and evaluating the feedback. This is undertaken in exam conditions but spans multiple weeks.

Is this course right for me?
A Level Computer Science is ideal if you enjoy problem-solving, logical thinking, and working with numbers. Mathematics is at the heart of the subject, so being confident with patterns, abstract thinking, and structured problem-solving will really help you succeed.
Computer Science is also highly creative. Designing software, building systems, and developing solutions all require innovation and fresh ideas. If you’re curious about how apps, games, websites, or AI systems are built—and would like the skills to create your own—this course is for you.

Students taking the T Level Digital: Digital Production, Design and Development will gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress to highly skilled em-ployment, higher level study or an apprenticeship.
The Stoke 6th Graduate Attributes will be developed and enhanced during this course. Resilience, independent of thought, communication skills, problem solving skills and the contribution of creative ideas will all be encouraged throughout the T Level Digital: Digital Production, Design and Development course.
Industry Placement
Industry placement is a mandatory part of the T Level course and full certification of the T Level will not be possible without completing the industry placement. The industry placement is substantially longer than the traditional work experience and so should be significantly beneficial to you and the employer. You are expected to gain substantial technical training as required through your industry placement.
- The T Level course is focused on developing practical workplace skills that will support progression on to further education or employment.
- The course has a compulsory Industry Placement of 315 hours (45 days) that must be completed over the 2 years to pass the overall qualification.
- Minimum of 1 day off timetable each week to attend a placement or complete the placement in week blocks planned around lesson delivery.
- Part-time work can count towards placement hours if in a role that is appropriate and related.
- 1.5 hour session with our college T Level Industry Placement Co-ordinator each week to develop employability skills to help you thrive in the workplace.
- T Level Industry Placement Co-ordinator will support your search for a meaningful placement and will complete all of the relevant documents.
- College will help with DBS checks and travel expenses.
